Two students, coordinated by the Centre for the Development of Gifted and Talented Education (EDGE) at the Ministry of Education (MoE), participated in the fourth International Science Youth Forum Digital 2022 from January 18-21.

Awangku Abdul Ghafur Ur Rahman bin Pengiran Abdul Rahman from Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar Secondary School and Syafiah Widadina binti Haji Mohamad Sahraini from Jerudong International School (JIS) attended the online forum with their supervisor and mentor, Sayyidina Hasan Secondary school teacher Hanis Jasmine binti Zaini.

Themed ‘Sparking Innovation, Igniting Collaboration’, the ISYF Digital 2022 was organised by Hwa Chong Institution (College Section) and supported by the Singapore Ministry of Education.

The event was joined by 111 participants from Brunei Darussalam, Australia, China, Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.

The annual forum served to provide a platform for students aged 16-17 to interact with renowned Nobel Laureates and Scientists in the ‘Meet the STEM Changemaker Session’, participate in team project challenges and visit the project exhibition. A keynote speech on computing technologies for the future from Millennium Technology prize recipient Professor Stuart Parkin was the highlight of the event.

Participants also discussed a project entitled ‘Effect of Videogames on Adolescents in Brunei during the Pandemic’ in a pre-recorded show during the project exhibition.

The deliberation was uploaded in ISYF Digital 2022.

The forum aimed to empower and enhance the efficiency of teachers’ pedagogy through discussions, idea sharing and professional practice on ‘Challenges and Opportunities for Science Education in the New Normal’ among students from the participating nations.
